Dylan at the beach

After a very early start today, I decided to take Dylan for a jaunt to the beach in his 'puppy bag'. It all sounds idyllic doesn't it? Not quite...if you imagine juggling spaghetti you'll have some idea of what it's like keeping 'curious boy Dylan' in his bag. He wants to explore and terriers are determined! Still we made it in the end and Dylan got his first glance of the sea, meeting lots of people on the way and playing up to strangers for a stroke on the head. Like a true pedigree, he knows how to 'turn it on' when he needs to!

We've started doing little bits of training with him and amazingly he seems to have learnt 'sit' super quickly. He'll do well in his puppy school exams I'm sure!  If only he would learn 'will you stop biting my trouser legs? ' as quick... we'd have much more peaceful mornings!

Another day, another empty tin of dog food...

Vets, Ducks, Friends and Puppy Bags

What a day little Dylan has had!  First thing this morning Kev and I rushed him off to the vets where he was given a full MOT  - he didn't mind eating the treats but objected to having his tail lifted and his ears examined- perfectly understandable.  Then it was time for the first immunisation- our vet is lovely and a true professional- I don't think he even noticed the injection as he was so busy snuffling around the table after the strategically placed food treats. Jab 1 complete.

Shortly after returning home our friend Ray arrived to help fix our chronically troublesome shower - a good socialisation opportunity for Dylan which he embraced wholeheartedly ! And with help from Kev 'the plumber's mate' we finally got our shower fixed  - all hail the super Plumber Ray!

Then it was time for more adventures. We have 3 weeks now until Dylan's jabs are complete and he can be put down on the floor for a 'proper walk' - in the meantime we have to get him out as much as possible as this is a key time for socialisation and it's really important he has as many experiences as possible. This is where the 'puppy bag' comes in.He's quite happy in there as you can see (helped by the fact that he'd already had some jaunts in a wicker basket with his 'first family'- thank you!).  Off we went down to our local pet shop - on the way we were assaulted by the usual town noises- air brakes on buses, pedestrian crossings, curious people, children and the noise of cars rushing around - Dylan was a star and was so sleepy after his jab that he dozed right off in the bag , with his head and front paws lolling around outside. Gave a woman in the pet shop quite a turn when he woke up as she had thought he was a cuddly toy!

Then home again and, after a quick tug of war game in the garden with his plush duck, Dylan has spent the rest of the day flat out asleep. I suspect it's going to be a long long night...

My first weekend as a dog owner

It's been a tough weekend , as you can tell by the pictures of (a) me loafing on the sofa and (b) my foot in its slipper ;-)

Seriously, I had a long day on Saturday so by the time I came home I was quite tired, fortunately Dylan was sleepy as well and was soon curled up on my foot, bless him! Dylan has proved thoroughly cute, and as Susan is doing all the hard work it seems he seeks me out when he wants a bit of company, there is no justice, eh Suzie?

This morning (Monday) the little scamp seemed to be much happier with his surroundings, so whilst we ate breakfast we got to laugh at Dylan running round the garden hiding his toys in the flower beds.

** Newsflash ** Just heard from Susan, apparently Dylan has just been caught trying to dig under the garden fence, hopefully this is just a manifestation of his terrier heritage and not a bid for freedom.

Cheers, Kev.

Day 2

A very hot day yesterday - sun at last! We spent most of the day in the garden with Dylan getting more confident by the minute and having a real explore. His favourite thing today was biting the heads off flowers - he seems to particularly like a geranium leaf after meals - who knows, he may be a budding herbalist.

As the day got hotter, I decided to water the plants and got the garden hose out. I thought this might start a tug of war between Dylan and the hose, but instead his curiosity got the better of him and he frolicked around under the spray of water until he got a good soaking. ( I promise I wasn't spraying him on purpose- the neighbours are my witnesses as they were looking over the garden fence at the time) . They do say Welsh Terriers love a swim so maybe there's something in it!

We also took Dylan out into Hove for the first time in his little puppy handbag. All the way to Tescos and back- wish I had photos of this one but it was impossible- Dylan was very keen to get down on the floor with the other dogs so it took all our energy to keep him from doing a 'Tigger spring' out of the bag. It's a shame as Kev looked a treat with his handbag on!

More soon.

Dylan's Arrival

Dylan the 8 week old Welsh Terrier has arrived at KellyGee mansions!

We picked Dylan up yesterday from his lovely 'first family' and his mum Darcy. After fond farewells we set off in the car back to Hove. First 30 minutes of the journey involved 'Dylan the Escape Artist' trying to climb out of his cardboard box - I think he might have wanted to do the driving but Sally my lovely chauffeur and 'puppy picker' insisted she stay at the wheel.

Arrived home and Dylan settled right in. He pottered all around the house and garden and even took a peak in his dog crate and had a little nap-a good start!   Our neighbour's little girl Ella said hello across the fence- I think she has been looking forward to Dylan's arrival almost as much as me!

Kev arrived home after a very long day at work to be immediately greeted by the lovely little fella. I was ignored for the rest of the night as Dylan settled himself down around Kev's feet. A good day!

Here he is....
